Ugh, Gross
In order to save money this trip, I have been following the advice of my mother and have been eating bread, meat and cheese. Fruits and vegetables are really expensive, or a pain to make, or something I'm just to lazy to eat, but I've been taking a complete mulitvitamin (it even has iron, thanks Barry!) to offset the lack of nutrients I'm receiving from my diet. However, this means I have a really fatty diet and it's starting to show - my belt already is tight at the loosest setting. So I bought some fruit in berlin, some plums or pluots (plum crossed with apricot) or something. To my surprise, I found that several of the trees around my apartment back in Ondrejov have these fruits growing on them and on my trip to the grocery store I confirmed that these actually were edible. Great, I thought, I have a free fruit supply! So today after my botched attempt at a run I grabbed some ripe feeling ones and headed home to eat some fruit with my bread and cheese. They smelled so sweet - I washed them up and bit into one. Only the pit had some grainy stuff that didn't quite look right on it. And then, in a moment that will haunt my dreams for months, a maggot crawled out from right where I had bitten into the plum. I gagged and spit everything onto the floor, then ran to the bathroom (ha, luckily not far away in my tiny apartment) and literally washed my mouth out with nothing but toothpaste. *This* close to using soap. I then threw of the plum thingys out of the window that I just figured out how to open today (so thankfully my room will not feel like a sauna anymore). Ugh, talk about your all time backfires.
