An Exciting Development

My original impetus for coming to Europe was to go to Croatia. I believe it was Schwanz who told me, "you have to go to Eastern Europe now, because in 10 years London will still be London, but Eastern Europe will be completely different. I ended up in Prague only at the suggestion of Professor Rich Kremer, whose colleage (Petr Hadrava) I am now working with. And it was looking like getting to Croatia was going to be almost prohibitively expensive, but nonetheless, thanks to cheap as hell flights from Croatia Air and me just saying "fuck it," once I finish up in Ondrejov I will head down to Dubrovnik, stopping in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Zagreb (Croatia) and Split (Croatia) as well. For at least a week I will get to bask in the glory of the Adriatic Sun, I think after the tourists have all left, but while it's still warm. From the guidebooks I've looked at in the English language bookstores in Prague, it looks incredible - aweseome beaches, sumtuous seafood and plenty of magnificent views. I'm very tempted to do something like rent/steal a moped and just ride around the coast and island hop, taking it on the ferries. How cool would that be!?! I also think I'm going to stay in people's houses rather than hostels, as fun as the hostel in Berlin was. These places are already pretty touristy and I'd like to get a real taste (literally and figuratively) for what life is like in Croatia. Too bad I'm fat and haven't been working on the Beach muscles. I guess I still have two weeks.
