The Bitchin' Afternoon is a time honored tradition that includes three main components: nice weather, satisfying food, and day drinking. This afternoon certainly qualified, as I spent the time with Badger and his roommate, Gio, in Santa Monica.
After catching up with my buddy Mike, who goes to law school at USC, I went out to the Promenade in downtown Santa Monica. After downing several cervezas and fish tacos, we went for a stroll on the beach. On the beach is a "Muscle Gym" with pull-up bars, rings, climbing ropes, and other assorted work out equipment. We all attempted to do the tarzan ring swing (video to come later); only Gio failed to make traverse the entire obstacle.
Around 4:30 we decided it was time to start drinking again. Badger had the inspired idea to find a rooftop bar, to soak in the last rays of the sun. We found one atop the Shangri-La Hotel, which is right above the beach. Happy hour there was a real find - $5 belgian beers, $4 popcorn chicken with siracha aioli and sweet potato fries with avocado salsa. We went through several rounds, watching the sun set in the Pacific.
